I think it was aptly named. Since in my humble opinion that Crime bill was a giant crime all by it's self. And if you think I'm two years late in complaining, consider that the money from the '95 Crime bill is only now making a difference on the streets of America. What a lot of people didn't (and still don't) realize was that the money grants for American police departments were not available until 1996. Most of the towns that got these funds didn't make any changes to the number of officers they'd hire until they got the money. AND the whole process of recruiting, hiring and training police officers takes the better part of a year. Therefore, any officers hired with "Crime Bill" money are only now getting on the streets to make a presence. The only problem is, this money will run out eventually, and then, unless the departments that did the hiring have extra money some where, those officers hired under the crime Bill will be out of work.
And that's not the only crime committed by this so-called crime bill. The Assault Weapon ban attached to it is nothing less than a full frontal attack on our individual rights as citizens to protect ourselves. If the political weenies in Washington had everything their way, you or I could get arrested just for TALKING about guns. Never mind trying to own one. In fact, they'd prefer it if we didn't. But that doesn't stop some of them from owning AND carrying firearms. But then they're SPECIAL people, so they should have greater rights than us.....NOT! Just because someone like Diane Feinstein is a senator, does that mean she has greater rights than me? I think not. The problem is however, she does. NOT Legally, but by virtue of her position of power does she have greater rights than you or I. And she's not the only one, there are others, of course.
And these people won't be happy until they have taken your and my right to self-protection away completely, 100%. That way we will be subject to threats not only from the criminal element, (to whom the Crime Bill has no REAL effect) but also the government as well. We will be the child that never grows up, that our parents, the U.S. Gov't will ALWAYS have to protect and care for, as well as discipline, when THEY see the need.
America USED to be the land of the free and home of the brave. Now it's the land of the overtaxed, and downtrodden, with very few of the brave left to stand up to tyranny. That is what we have too. Every time a restrictive law is passed that ONLY effects the law-abiding people, and not the criminal element, we get one step closer to the socialist/communist dream of utopia, in which the masses are just that. Masses without individual freedoms. Subject to the will of the elite few who are in charge.
My hope is to see this trend reversed in my lifetime. My fear is that if I don't, my children and grandchildren will not know the freedoms I have known. Only time will tell the difference now. And only WE, the few remaining free can make a difference.
